 "Great drill" 2009-06-25
By K. Thompson (Huntley, IL United States)
Being a journeyman carpenter for over 20 years this is a great drill. I have had this drill for ten years now and I am just now replacing the battery. All of the tools that I use are from various manufacturers based on the tools ability. I use Dewalt drills and miter saw. I use Makita for saws as well. It just depends on the tool to which brand I select. Each brand is known for something and Dewalt makes a great drill.

"A really good cordless drill" 2009-05-25
By Donald L. Buckle (SW Texas)
My son gave me my first 18-volt cordless drill (Black & Decker) four years ago. It was adequate for light use, but lacked power.

I upgraded to the DEWALT 18-Volt Compact Drill when I started my barn project. I have definitely not been disappointed. It has far more power than my B&D and the two speed feature is a big plus allowing a slower speed for driving screws and a higher speed for drilling metals. The 1 hour charge feature is a big plus.

I highly recommend this item.

 "Great Drill" 2009-04-27
By Kristen Peerman (Dahlgren, Virginia)
This is the best drill that I have ever owend. I have only used it a little bit since the purchase but bought this and am very happy with it. This is a very powerful drill. It even screwed right into 2x4 without pilot holes. Charge seems to hold for a long time. Make sure you charge as soon as you get it. I put the battery on the drill just to check for charge and it seemed to have one so I didn't charge right away. Well charge from factory was minimal so had to stop project to charge the the batteries, good thing is the battery charged in about an hour.

"best drill I have had" 2009-03-28
By LM1000 (upstate NY)
Best drill I have ever had. It just has a better feel to me than my frineds Milwaukee. I had a Ryobi that worked well for 1 year, but after a year it started to run rought and it was suggested to me to buy a more quality tool. Wasn't sure to get Dewalt, Makita, or Milwaukee, but I'm glad I got this Dewalt. Small for an 18v but more than enough power.

I have put this guy through the test more than once, its a work horse easy to use and holds up well. This is the second one. I have had the first one still works well except the battery's have gone bad and they cost as much as a new drill.

 "DeWalt 18-V Cordless" 2009-07-04
By P. Yavner (Dallas, TX USA)
Received the tool ready to go, but I tested it to see if any of the problems noted by others were evident; notably runout in the chuck. None! It's well-centered, powerful, and runs very well. I have old, 12-V cordless DeWalt drills, and in comparison this is much, much nicer. I like being able to tighten the chuck with one hand, as it locks and allows turning without holding "the other part of" the drill. All around good tool; I've used it mostly for screwing in 3/8" lag screws, and it does that well...

 "Complete piece of junk!!!!!" 2009-06-05
By bub
Looks good two batteries and charger included. Good deal? NO_NO_NO- the clutch in this thing is made of cheese. It started slipping on the 2nd job I did with it. Left me out in the field twiddling my thumbs.

I don't know what possessed me to pick this one, but it was sure a waste of my money and my time!!!!

"My DeWalt outperforms this in every way" 2009-05-19
By M. Nation (FWB, FL)
I should have known better to buy a Skil brand tool. The first year it did pretty well but never had enough torque for my tastes. The batteries are complete crap. They won't keep a charge for anything. Its heavier than it should be. My DeWalt 18-volt is so much better. Just spend a little more money and get a better product.

"drill decent but batteries terrible" 2009-02-07
By Darren A. Lueking (Houston, TX)
I have had this drill for over a year now. The batteries will not hold a charge when not in use. You must constantly keep them in the charger. Pay more and get a better brand. Very Very disappointed.

 "Great Drill. Bad Batteries." 2009-02-01
By Spencer Holliman (California)
I bought my Skil several years ago. I got an excellent year out of it, then Skil replaced the batteries at the end of its warranty. Then I got another great year out of it. Since then, I had to charge the batteries immediately before each use, and now they won't charge at all.

Replacing the batteries costs as much as the new product.

So, it's an excellent disposable drill, but not a long-term tool to add to a collection.

Skil (or a 3rd party) should sell replacement batteries.

 "Milwaukee #0234-1 Heavy Duty 1/2" Drill" 2009-05-17
By James Selman (Topanga, CA)
Considering the state of our economy it is gratifying to be able to purchase a fine piece of American engineering that is actually manufactured here. This drill is superior to others manufactured with the Milwaukee name plate only, in terms of power (though only 5.5 amp.) and control. The variable speed trigger operates smoothly and the drill overall gives the impression of longevity common to products that have historically carried the Milwaukee nameplate since the days when it was a private company and not owned by a multinational.

"Follow-up on previous 1 star rating regarding not the same drill I ordered" 2009-05-12
By George J. Grubis
I e-mailed Milwaukee Tools regarding the receipt of a model 0234-1 corded drill rather than the one adventised at Amazon...model 0234-6. It seems that Milwaukee Tools considers them both to be the same 1/2 inch drills, WITH DIFFERENT MODEL NUMBERS! Milwaukee said the drill I returned was manufactured in Nov. 2007 and that if it were refurbished, it would be marked on the tool as such. Guess Milwaukee's got their own way of doing things but it's confusing for the customer. So I have revoked my 1 star rating and gave this a 4 star. The confusion is really Milwaukee Tool's fault more than Amazon's.

 "OUTSTANDING DRILL!" 2009-03-26
By Robert E. Nevins
I had high expectations using this drill! I put it to the test, drilling a 1/2 inch hole through two plates of four hundred series stainless steel 3/8 inch plate in my steel work bench for mounting my vise. That drill hogged right through, without lugging down at all. I ended up really impressed. Glad i bought it from AMAZON.COM.

Havent used this drill yet but am looking forward to putting it to work. I bought it because I only had cordless drills, aside from a great, rugged Milwaukee Hammer drill, was also confident because of great reviews from others, It is very solid and I like the quick change cord. I expect to have this drill for years
